rustblind and silverbright

There are books that I start reading with a passion that the next thing I note I’m at 30 pages from the end. So what I do? Sometimes I pause. I put it aside to perpetuate the flavor of the words any longer. This happened lately with the book Rustblind and Silverbright edited by Eibonvale Press.

I love trains and the parallel iron lines that extend across the horizon. I was born and live near the train station of Barcelos and maybe this is the reason for the fascination.
Still naughty kid, as should be any kid, I placed enormous nails in the rails as soon as I heard the whistle of the train and I expected that the iron wheels, heavy, round monsters, transform them into thin sheets of metal. I went to the rail bridge rail and thus that the train was approaching I descended some steps to the lower platform to dangerously admire the guts of the beast.

Rustblind and Silverbright is a spectacular anthology, with a special meaning for me. On a scale 1-10 I give a 20 smoothly. All stories are well balanced; discover new authors, rediscover acquaintances is always lovely, without forgetting the words of David Rix that can fascinate the fascination.

It is very difficult for me, for all this to make a consistent, articulate review. I can only say that Rustblind and Silverbright is a book I recommend, recommend and recommend.

cat

My drawing and the beautiful words by Rhys Hughes in the book More Than a Feline.

more than a feline

more than a feline

One of my favourite drawings in my recently published illustrated book of cat stories is this clever geometric piece from Paulo Brito. He took the letters in the word CAT and made a drawing from them — of a cat! So I wrote a little poem to accompany it…

I’m so happy with this!!!!

pussy excuses!

My neighbour’s cat was lolling around enjoying a languid sunshine.
‘Hello pussy’, she said when I crossed with her.
‘Ma’am respect I’m cute. but not pussy!’
‘I was talking to my cat, not to you,’ she replied.
‘Yeah, yeah – fake excuses!’

imparidades / pun paired

O 2 sabia-se par, mas andava sempre sozinho. Dividiu-se e na separação encontrou os gémeos 1 e 1. Os 1 sabiam-se ímpares, mas faziam um lindo par.

The 2 knew to be even, but he was always alone. He split and in separation he found twins 1 and 1. The 1s knew they were odd, but they made a lovely pair.

bloody war by terry grimwood

Bloody War by Terry Grimwood, published by Eibonvale Press is a book with a dystopian, totally exciting and very well structured story. Terry Grimwood, creates from page to page one too real imaginary world. Is not a pleasant book, but since when is the war pleasing?

The main character, Pete Allman, leads us in his arms to a hell of doubt, turns, twists and turns and force us to think.

Bloody War is so well written, well structured, so brutal that it’s an insult compares it to 1984, only because “yes“.

Everyone should read this book; is bloody good!

the young dictator, one review

It is not possible to do a normal evaluation of a uncommon book. As such my opinion is not worried about having more than 1000 words or be in real time.
I will autopsy the book to the bone and giving scores for each point.
01. has a cover, but not a dust wrapper (score -10)
02. has a cover with pages to read. is annoying to have a cover with nothing inside (score +10)
03. the main character is a teenager who is not a vampire (score +20)
04. there is also a grandmother, this always gives the “family touch” (score +10)
05. there is action in outer space and beyond, I like it very much (score +10)
06. has many word games which requires to read with great attention, I’m afraid of having missed a pun and that annoys me (score -20)
07. the teenager Jenny is not only flat, but it is also perpendicular, parallel, and even had, as I read the book, a position up to 10%, all depended on my position on the bed, on the couch, on foot – this greatly values a character (score +10)
08. the fact that the book provide, for only $14.75 USD, 13.5 laughter, 23 giggles and a BIG laugh accompanied by sneezing with mucus, especially since it occurred while reading The Young Dictator at the train station of Barcelos; the people looked strangely at me, which is normal because at that time I was a stranger reading a strange book at a not strange train station (score +60)
09. the book has a glossary, I did not like to be left in doubt if I am an adult or an older teen (score -10)
10. and very important the book comes to THE END (score +20)

Total assessment 100. Not bad on a scale of 0 to 100, but not in one from 0 to 1000.

the word cat

I don’t know drawing. The first image is a example of this. I always tried to draw a cat with the words cat… without success.
So I tried to get something more simple.

word cat

That’s when the drawings? surrounded in blue caught my attention. Would this be the solution?
A few more attempts, but now with a compass and ruler.

I loved what I got in the right side of the image; so I attacked the Photoshop. I loved the final outcome.
